Venticinque anni fa iniziavo il mio mestiere di illustratore, ma…
da bambino costruivo casette di gesso per le automobiline. Le automobiline, quando cominciavano a scorticarsi nella vernice, le smontavo completamente e le riverniciavo con lo spray. Così tornavano nuove.
Dei libri, invece, preferivo guardare le figure. Ricordo dei grandi volumi con delle illustrazioni di dinosauri, tigri, leoni e persino galli.
C’era, però, un libro speciale. Lo tiravo fuori dalla libreria di mio padre. Mi sedevo nella grande poltrona e cominciavo a sfogliarne le pagine. La Divina Commedia illustrata dal Doré era un’edizione degli anni venti.
Caronte era il mio preferito.

Twenty-five years ago I started my career as an illustrator.
as a child I made chalk houses for toy cars. When the cars started to peel off in the paint, I would take them completely apart and spray-paint them. That way they would look new again.
Of the books, however, I preferred to look at the pictures. I remember large volumes with illustrations of dinosaurs, tigers, lions and even roosters.
There was, however, one special book. I used to take it out of my father’s bookcase. I would sit in the big armchair and start flipping through its pages. The Divine Comedy illustrated by Doré was a 1920s edition.
Charon was my favourite.
